 Charles R. Young, Sr.

Charles R. Young, Sr. 

Charles R. Young Sr. is of counsel to the firm of Young Morphis Bach & Taylor.  Mr Young has practiced law with the firm for 40 years.  He was a founding member of the North Carolina Bar Association Real Property Council, and was designated by North Carolina Business magazine as one of North Carolina’s "legal elite" in the area of real‑property law.  His areas of concentration include real estate, mediation, estates, transactions, general corporate law, and minor league baseball. 

Born in Greenville, South Carolina, Mr. Young received his undergraduate degree from Wofford College in 1965 and was awarded his law degree from Wake Forest University in 1968. He is certified as a mediator by the North Carolina Supreme Court and is a member of the American Bar Association, the North Carolina Bar Association, and the North Carolina Bar Association Real Property Council.

Mr. Young served as chairman of the board of directors for Frye Regional Medical Center for a number of years, and he has also served as a board member for such institutions as the Patrick Beaver Learning Resource Center, the Deacons Club at Wake Forest University, and the North Carolina Baptist Hospital.  Mr. Young has also served the local United Way and the Greater Hickory Fund in various capacities, including president. He is presently the vice president and minority owner of Hickory Baseball, Inc.  He is a Martindale‑Hubbell® AV‑rated lawyer.          


 Wayne M. Bach

 Wayne M. Bach

Wayne M. Bach, a partner with Young Morphis Bach & Taylor.  Mr. Bach joined the firm in 1978 after working as a senior trial lawyer with the Internal Revenue Service.  He  received an undergraduate degree from East Carolina University in 1968 and was awarded a law degree (cum laude) from the University of Louisville in 1973.  The following year he was awarded a Master of Laws degree in taxation from the College of William and Mary. Mr. Bach’s practice primarily consists of taxation, estate law, and estate planning and administration. He also handles transactional work, including sales and acquisitions, for businesses and corporations. 

Mr. Bach is a member of the American Bar Association, the North Carolina Bar Association, the Louisville Bar Association, the Virginia Bar Association, and is a member of the tax and estate‑planning sections of the North Carolina State Bar.  Born in Washington, D.C., he was admitted to practice law in North Carolina in 1973. He is a Martindale‑Hubbell® AV‑rated lawyer.        


Terry M. Taylor

Terry M. Taylor

Terry M. Taylor, a partner with the firm, is certified by the North Carolina State Bar as a specialist in real‑property law, including residential, business, commercial, and industrial transactions.  She joined Young Morphis Bach & Taylor in 1984.  Ms. Taylor earned a bachelor’s degree with high honors from Western Illinois University in 1977, and the following year she received a master’s degree in regional and community planning.  She was awarded a law degree from Wake Forest University in 1984 and was admitted to the North Carolina State Bar the same year. 

Ms. Taylor’s law practice includes real estate law, municipal law, corporate transactions, estates, wills, and general business‑related matters.  She is the attorney for the Hickory‑Conover Tourism Development Authority and has served as the town attorney for the Town of Sawmills for more than 10 years. She is a past president of the Catawba County Bar Association and is a member of the North Carolina and American Bar Associations, the North Carolina State Bar, and the North Carolina Municipal Attorney’s Association. Ms. Taylor formerly served as Special Assistant for Rural Affairs for the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, D.C. In addition, she is a past president of the Frye Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Hospitality House Board and currently serves on the board of directors of the Catawba Science Center.  She was born in Hinsdale, Illinois.


 Paul E. Culpepper

Paul E. Culpepper, a partner with the firm, joined Young Morphis Bach & Taylor in 1993. Born in Greenville, Mississippi, he received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Wake Forest University in 1990 and was awarded a law degree from the Campbell University’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law in 1993.

Mr. Culpepper maintains a general civil‑litigation practice that includes business litigation, workers’ compensation law, employment law, and construction law.  He is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Catawba County Bar Association, and is a member of the employment law and workers’ compensation sections of the North Carolina Bar Association. 

Mr. Culpepper is a member of the Board of Directors of the Western Piedmont Symphony and is an active volunteer for Catawba Valley Legal Services.   


 

 Kevin C. McIntosh

 Kevin C. McIntosh

Kevin C. McIntosh, a partner in the firm, was born in Marion, North Carolina.  He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1990 and was awarded a law degree from Campbell University ’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law in 1993, where he was the recipient of the Dean’s Scholarship.

Mr. McIntosh’s practice areas include real estate transactions, general business and corporate law including acquisitions and sales, and elder law. He is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Catawba County Bar Association, and is a member of the real‑property, tax, and business‑law sections of the North Carolina and American Bar Associations.   

Admitted to practice law in North Carolina in 1993, McIntosh served as the 25th Judicial District representative for the Young Lawyers Division of the North Carolina Bar Association.  He is the current past president of the Catawba County Humane Society and he frequently provides volunteer services for the Lutheran Home–Hickory.   


 Jimmy R. Summerlin, Jr.

Jimmy R. Summerlin, Jr.

Jimmy R. Summerlin, Jr. joined the firm as an associate in January 2003, and is a native of Tarboro, North Carolina.  He received his bachelor of science (cum laude) and  master’s of science degrees in agronomy from North Carolina State University and holds a doctorate degree from the University of Tennessee.  Mr. Summerlin received his law degree with a concentration in business transactions from the University of Tennessee (magna cum laude) in 2003.  At Tennessee, Mr. Summerlin served as president of the Business and Tax Law Association, as a staff editor for Transactions, the Tennessee Journal of Business Law, and was elected to membership in the Order of Coif, a national legal honor society.

Mr. Summerlin has built his law practice around bankruptcy law, commercial law, and business organizations law.  He is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Catawba County Bar Association.


 Timothy Swanson

Timothy D. Swanson

Tim joined Young, Morphis, Bach & Taylor as an associate in August 2006. Tim received his bachelor of arts , magna cum laude, in Political Science, graduating with honors from Lenoir-Rhyne University. He received his law degree from Campbell University Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law in 2006.

Tim now maintains a wide-ranging civil and criminal litigation practice which includes corporate and contract litigation, real estate litigation, collection matters, traffic/DWI defense, and criminal misdemeanor defense.  Tim also represents multiple homeowner associations throughout the district and assists them with both transactional work and litigation, when necessary. 

Tim is a member of the American Bar Association, North Carolina Bar Association, Catawba County Bar Association, North Carolina Advocates for Justice, YMCA Board of Managers, and Woodlawn Baptist Church.


 

Henry S. Morphis Henry S. Morphis

Henry S. Morphis joined the firm as an associate in August 2006, and is a native of Hickory, North Carolina. Mr. Morphis received a bachelor of science degree in wood products from North Carolina State University in 1995. He was awarded his law degree from Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law in 2006. Prior to receiving his law degree Mr. Morphis worked in the furniture industry in engineering and management.

Mr. Morphis' practice focuses on estate planning and administration, business and commercial law, franchise law, taxation, and business litigation. He is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association (member Estate Planning & Fiduciary Law Section), the American Bar Association (member Business Law Section and Forum on Franchising), and the Catawba County Bar Association (current Treasurer).  Mr. Morphis is also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Hickory, serves on the board of directors for the Family Guidance Center and is an Eagle Scout.
