Young, Morphis, Bach & Taylor, LLP seeks an experienced paralegal or legal assistant. A paralegal position with our firm requires the candidate to perform a variety of duties assisting attorneys in accordance with established policies and procedures, including maintaining positive contact with clients, observing confidentiality of client matters, organizing and maintaining paper and electronic case files, and assisting with the preparation of various legal documents. Depending on past experience and current need within our firm at the time of a hire, the position could be more heavily focused in litigation, corporate law, real estate, and/or estate law.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Paralegal certification or a four-year college degree is preferred, but not required;
  • Experience under the supervision of a licensed attorney is highly preferred;
  • A courteous, highly professional demeanor and demonstrated work ethic including the willingness to take on extra tasks and responsibilities to meet client and/or firm needs;
  • Ability to multi-task in a busy work environment;
  • Exceptional proofreading skills, along with attention-to-detail;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work well with attorneys and other staff in a team environment while also having the motivation and drive to complete tasks independently and efficiently;
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office programs, Adobe Acrobat and document management software; and
  • Current licensure as an NC Notary Public, or willingness to obtain such certification immediately after hire.

Job Responsibilities

  • Reviewing, copying, scanning and organizing client information and files;
  • Corresponding with clients, court officials, and attorney offices by phone, e-mail and mail;
  • Maintaining attorney's calendar, including all client meetings as well as any court dates, all statute of limitations and filing deadlines;
  • Preparing, in accordance with an attorney’s instructions, correspondence, court pleadings, corporate agreements, and/or real estate and estate documents for review and use by attorney.
